Boys Basketball vs. Chaffee Recap
In a high-stakes Scott-Mississippi Conference matchup on Tuesday night, January 13th, the Scott City Rams maintained their perfect conference record with a gritty 52-37 road victory over the Chaffee Red Devils.
The win keeps the Rams (10-3, 5-0) at the top of the conference standings, while Chaffee (10-4, 1-2) remains a strong contender despite the setback.
Braeden scored a game-high 22 points, while adding 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Kaden contributed 12 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Carter chipped in 11 points, while adding 8 rebounds. Chaffee was led by a standout performance from Nolan, who scored 20 points, accounting for more than half of the Red Devils’ total production.
The contest was a defensive battle for three quarters, with Scott City holding onto narrow leads at every turn. The Rams jumped out to a 17-12 lead in the first, but Chaffee’s defense tightened in the second quarter, holding Scott City to just 12 points and heading into the locker room down
29-25.
The third quarter was the most defensive-oriented period of the night, as both teams combined for only 12 total points. Entering the final frame, the Rams held a slim 35-31 advantage. The fourth quarter proved to be the difference-maker. Scott City finally found their offensive groove, starting on a 9-0 run and ultimately outscoring the Red Devils 17-6 in the final frame. The Rams’ late-game execution allowed them to pull away and turn a nail-biter into a double-digit victory.
Both teams face important matchups this Friday, January 16th. Scott City returns home for a high-energy Homecoming game against East Prairie. Chaffee looks to bounce back as they travel to take on the Kelly Hawks.
