High School Jazz Band
About Jazz Band
This is one of the top music performance groups at Scott City. Students who are in the jazz band perform several times throughout the year, including at student performances, festivals, concerts, and try to go out and play for the community at least once a year.
In jazz band, the focus is on performance of jazz music, which is often considered America’s classical music, though it is very much in the style of pop music. Students learn the art of jazz, how to imrpovise and compose their own songs, and help drive the song choices we perform throughout the year.
Jazz band plays music by the jazz greats such as Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, and John Coltrane, and more recent songs from artists such as ELO, Michael Jackson, and Van Morrison. The jazz band also often plays music from popular video games.
