Baseball & Softball Teams Excel in Malden
Malden High School hosted their annual baseball and softball tournaments on April 12th and 13th, and the Scott City Rams showed why they have one of the best baseball teams and one of the best softball teams in the area.
The Scott City baseball team had an incredible performance, winning first place in the Malden tournament. The offense looked like the 1927 Yankees in the four games of the tournament, scoring no less than 9 runs in any of the games. The pitching and defense also held up their end of the deal, only allowing more than 1 run once during the tournament. Their hard work and dedication paid off, as they dominated every game and showed great sportsmanship, taking the championship with an 11-7 win over the team that knocked them out of the state playoffs last year, the Portageville Bulldogs. It was the Rams second victory over Portageville this season.
The Scott City softball team also did an amazing job, taking 2nd place in the Malden Tournament. Their offense also traveled to Malden quite well, averaging over 11 runs per games throughout the tournament. The Rams were not quite able to squeak out a win against the softball Portageville Bulldogs, losing 7-6, but they played well enough to earn 2nd place in the tournament. Additionally, softball’s next game is a rematch with Portageville, so they will have their chance at revenge on April 18th. The softball team may have come in second, but they are winners in our eyes and we are incredibly proud of them.
Congratulations to both teams for their outstanding performance!
